muddyrace.co.uk review
by Rob Foulkes at Muddyrace.co.uk
04 March 2014

This weekend saw the first of many muddy obstacle races in March with the Nuts Challenge catering for 2,600 mud hunger runners. As well as the much loved fun runners this was the first event this year that saw the Elite’s battle it out for top Nutter credentials.

The 28km offered the most feistiest of races with Team Inov-8 OCR putting forward their best racers in Jon Albon, Ross MacDonald and Claire Miller. Team RPCC brought the Sam Cherry and Ross Phelan who were seen across the Spartan events last year taking podium finishes. James Appleton, previous Tough Guy winner, also made an appearance after what seems to be a UK comeback after success last year at the Spartan World Championships finishing in 6th place. Throwing spears, leaping through fire and plunging into ice pits isn’t your average Sunday morning.

But 5,000 sports enthusiasts and cross-country runners decided to do something more challenging at the Cambridge Spartan Race.

The gruelling 5km (3-mile) assault course designed to test the world’s toughest obstacle racers was held at the Carver Barracks in Debden.

The obstacle race tested racers’ physical stamina and mental toughness to the limit, forcing them to grapple with fearsome, military-style obstacles including barbed-wire mud crawls, ice-pit plunges and 25ft cargo-net climbs. Continue reading

London Spartan Sprint review – kicking off the 2013 season in style

Mudstacle.com  August 26, 2013

Spartan gladiators

This year’s UK Spartan Race season has felt like it’s been a long time coming and their return has been shrouded by nervous anticipation, for me at least. If I’m going to be honest, I think this weekend’s London Sprint was make-or-break for the Spartan team, if they ever wanted to truly establish a dominant position in the UK obstacle course race market. There are so many other players out there, big and small, it was time for Spartan to reach their potential. Well, I am very pleased to tell you, this weekend’s Sprint massively exceeded my expectations. Many congratulations to the team… and welcome to the UK!

I’ll share my thoughts below but to set the scene, here’s our video edit: Continue reading

Last weekend it all culminated in a double win at the Spartan Midlands Super on Saturday and then the Spartan Midlands Sprint on Sunday. Continue reading
